Zimbabwe bus crash kills 35 forward of Easter gathering – The Citizen

At least 35 individuals died and 71 had been injured in Zimbabwe when a bus carrying churchgoers to an Easter gathering veered off the highway and plunged down a gorge, police stated on Friday.

The automobile was taking members of a neighborhood Zion Christian Church who had been going to an Easter assembly within the south of the nation.

“I can confirm an accident which occurred last night. So far, the death toll is 35 and the number of injured is 71,” police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi advised AFP.

“As church people they should lead by example but instead they were travelling at night which we always discourage,” Nyathi stated. 

Police stated the bus was travelling from southeastern Chimanimani city to Masvingo, 280 kilometres away, and that the crash occurred close to Chipinge city.

An area lawmaker Joshua Sacco who visited the scene of the crash stated the bus rolled a number of occasions down the steep slope and the roof was ripped off.

“Passengers were thrown out. There were both dead bodies and injured passengers scattered at the scene after they were thrown off the bus,” Sacco advised AFP on the telephone.
