Victorian child under 10 dies with COVID-19, becoming Australia’s youngest victim

A Victorian child with “serious comorbidities” has become to youngest person in Australia to die with COVID-19.

The state health department reported the child’s death on Saturday, among five newly reported deaths of the disease.

“The child aged under 10 years, who died with COVID-19, also had other serious comorbidities,” the department said in a release on Saturday.

The department did not specify the child’s age, but did say they were under the age of 10.

Australia had not previously recorded a COVID-19 death in the 0-9 age bracket.

This is a developing story. More to come.
