Verstappen must go ‘full attack’: Rosberg

Former Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg believes Lewis Hamilton’s greater experience could be crucial in the Formula One title run-in, but says Max Verstappen has a chance if he times his moves perfectly.

Dutchman Verstappen leads seven-times champion Hamilton by eight points going into this weekend’s inaugural Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the penultimate race of the season.

“Emotionally, I say Lewis,” Rosberg, who had a difficult relationship with the Briton at Mercedes before retiring after his sole 2016 triumph, told RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland on Tuesday.

“It’s certainly not easy for Max, because it’s the first time he’s been in such a situation.

“And then he is also against the most successful Formula One driver of all time. In that respect, he already deserves the greatest respect.”

But the 36-year-old gave Verstappen hope and risked re-energising a long feud with Hamilton.

“You have to take advantage when Lewis has his weak phases, when he loses a little motivation, his head. Then it’s full attack,” explained German Rosberg.
