A mother in South Carolina was shot and killed in her car on Friday, Nov. 12, as police continue to investigate the murky mystery behind the murder and calls for justice grow on social media.
Patricia Grooms, a 32-year-old mother of two from South Carolina, was found shot inside her truck on Friday. Police officers have been wary to release more information as the investigation continues, but they have arrested 38-year-old Billy Mclean Head III for her murder, the Independent reported.
“The male was stating to the female caller that he had been attacked by someone with a knife,” an incident report said about how they found Grooms’s body. “I arrived and found an unresponsive female in a truck with apparent gunshot wounds.”
Head allegedly shot Grooms in front of her six-year-old daughter. Head, who has been dating Grooms for more than three weeks, said that the act was self-defense because Grooms was attacking him with a knife, according to news.com.au.
“I don‘t know why he shot her four times,” Mary Campodonico, a friend to the family, said. “There are a lot of things we don’t know.”
Margaret Kappel, Grooms’ cousin, and the rest of her family have escalated calls on TikTok and social media for the prosecution of Head with the hashtag “#JusticeForTrish,” according to NBC affiliate Count on News 2.
“He told his child to turn her head because he was going to do something bad and then she heard four loud bangs. This is something a child had to tell law enforcement and be subjected to. No child should ever have to go through this,” Kappel said about the incident.
As calls for justice increase across social media, the police have been keeping quiet about the scope of their investigation as well as the possible evidence that they may have against Head.
“This investigation remains open and active, limiting the release of additional information,” Colleton County Sheriff‘s Office said in a statement.
