New York City Police Department (NYPD) said that a Bronx high school teenager was stabbed by another student during an altercation Friday.
Just before 1 pm Friday, cops were informed about the stabbing incident that happened at Walton High School on Reservoir Avenue, Bronx, reported PIX11 News. Police said that the teenagers were fighting when the 15-year-old got his hands on a pair of scissors and used it to stab the 14-year-old. According to the NYPD, it wasn’t fatal as the injured teen was taken to a hospital and was expected to survive. On the other hand, the older teen was taken into custody, with charges pending.
The school has the right number of safety officers, but starting Monday, more security and counseling services will be given, said a spokesperson for the Department of Education. According to the spokesperson, safety is their top priority, and NYPD and emergency medical services immediately responded to the stabbing incident. The spokesperson shared that the victim was in stable condition and they will provide the school with “additional safety and counseling support, as well as work closely with the NYPD on their investigation.”
The investigating team is said to be looking into whether the fight has anything to do with bullying or not, according to NBC New York.
