‘Private discussions’: Morrison refuses to reveal governor-general’s role in ministry saga

Scott Morrison has refused to divulge any conversations he had with the governor-general regarding his secret ministry, insisting he is “respecting a long-standing principle and convention”.

Mr Morrison was grilled by reporters over his appointment to several high-profile ministries from March 2020 to May 2021 and was repeatedly asked about the role the governor-general played in the saga.

“I will follow the practice that all Prime Ministers have in the past,” Mr Morrison said.

“I don’t go into private discussions with the governor-general.

“You are asking me to go into conversations between me and the governor-general, which I am not going to do.

“I am simply respecting a long-standing principle and convention that the governor-general and the Prime Minister have many conversations; the governor-general took the advice of the day from the government and acted accordingly.”
