Number of flood insurance claims ‘increasing by 25 per cent’ every day

Insurance Council of Australia CEO Andrew Hall says to date “we’ve received around 60,000 claims for insurance” amid the recent floods, but that number is “increasing by 25 per cent” every day.

“We’ve estimated today the cost is sitting around 900 million (dollars) but when you think about last year when there were the floods in the Hawkesbury and Port Macquarie, the total cost there was 900 million … it is a very large event, and it is not over,” he told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“It’s definitely of the scale of the bushfires from 2019.”
