Nick Kyrgios vs Novak Djokovic, drunk fan, press conference, reaction, video

Nick Kyrgios was furious about a fan’s behaviour during his Wimbledon final, and the Aussie was in no mood to hear excuses after it.

Kyrgios took the first set against Novak Djokovic, before losing the next three and ultimately the match.

But it was in the third when things got heated between Kyrgios and chair umpire Renaud Lichtenstein, with a woman in the stands becoming the centre of attention.

“It’s the one in the dress with the… the one who looks like she’s had around 700 drinks, bro,” Kyrgios said in an exchange with Lichtenstein. She’s talking to me every time in the point.”

Asked about the interaction post-match, Kyrgios recounted his experience with the “absolutely smashed” spectator.

“I wouldn’t say she cost me the game. But like, I’m playing the Wimbledon final against one of the best players of all time, I don’t need somebody, absolutely smashed, talking to me point in, point out.

“I’m all for having a great time, but speaking between first and second serves to me, you know. I’ve been on a couple nights out in my life, and I knew she had too many.

“I told the umpire, ‘She’s speaking to me a lot, and she’s drunk, what are you going to do about it?’

“And he was like, ‘I didn’t know she was drunk.’

“She continued… [and] that’s when you’ve got to maybe give her a water, or take her out.”

The journalist followed up: “You might find this interesting. But since, she’s said she had two drinks, and she’s actually rooted for you from the start. What do you make of that?”

It was this question that left Kyrgios all sorts of confused.

“Well, that doesn’t make it OK to start talking to Nick Kyrgios who is playing a final of Wimbledon, middle of the point. Why are you trying to make it OK? What?”

A perplexed Kyrgios had clearly had enough, as a Wimbledon media official quickly moved the press conference on.
