Prime Minister Scott Morrison has introduced that the Royal Australian Navy will purchase new helicopters to exchange the present fleet of Taipans.
“Today, we’re announcing that the Royal Australian Navy will acquire an additional 12 MH-60R Romeo maritime helicopters for the Navy, and they’ll be based here at Albatross,” Mr Morrison mentioned.
“This will replace the Navy’s current fleet of six Taipan helicopters, and we will acquire an additional 13th Romeo to replace the loss of a Romeo in The Philippine Sea in October 2021.”
Of the $2.5 billion funding, Mr Morrison mentioned $1.5 billion would go in the direction of the acquisition of the helicopters with $1 billion for the continuing sustainment of the fleet.
“That is expected to add to the 200 direct jobs right here that is already sustaining the fleet that we have by another 90 jobs,” he mentioned.Prime Minister Scott Morrison has introduced that the Royal Australian Navy will purchase new helicopters to exchange the present fleet of Taipans.
