Mabuyane says there’ll be no Cabinet reshuffle in Eastern Cape after ANC convention

Fresh from his re-election on Monday because the Eastern Cape ANC chairperson, Oscar Mabuyane has denied claims that there will likely be a shake-up to the provincial Cabinet authorities reshuffle.

But the Eastern Cape premier confirmed that he would conduct a reassessment of the Cabinet as part of a mid-term efficiency evaluate course of.

He mentioned this was “an open secret”.

“There will be no [Cabinet] reshuffle but there will be a performance review. It’s going to happen [because] we are in the mid-term. It’s an open secret,” Mabuyane mentioned.

He was talking at a media briefing in East London on Monday afternoon following the announcement of the highest 5 ANC management posts.

Mabuyane emerged victorious on the ANC Eastern Cape ninth provincial elective convention, along with his faction profitable a clear sweep of the management contest.

He beat his rival, present public works MEC Babalo Madikizela, by 812 votes.

Madikizela obtained 662 votes from the 1,497 delegates who voted on the convention held on the East London International Convention Centre.

‘There’s no purging’

The different provincial leaders elected to the highest 5 included Mlungisi Mvoko because the deputy chairperson and Lulama Ngcukiatobi as provincial secretary.

Helen Sauls-August was elected the deputy provincial secretary and Zolile Williams the provincial treasurer.

Mabuyane mentioned they heard rumours about his contenders being faraway from the provincial Cabinet. But he assured the media that there could be “no purging” of his opponents.

 “There’s no purging. We’ve heard about these stories, but I don’t know the reason [for them],” he mentioned.

Call for unity and renewal

Meanwhile, Mabuyane known as for the unity and renewal of the ANC, saying this may be the precedence of the newly elected provincial management.

“We will proceed with that loyal dedication to the renewal of the ANC and we’ll lead have been needed as a province.

“This is the time we are working so hard to make sure that the ANC exists for another 100 years and even beyond,” he mentioned.

Mabuyane’s victory comes after a tense elective convention that was characterised by authorized motion, a heavy safety presence, a number of disruptions and disputes over the adoption of credentials.
