Live updates and latest news on Canberra’s path out of lockdown | The Canberra Times

It’s a new week and it could prove pivotal in Canberra’s COVID-19 recovery. Daily infection numbers have remained in single digits for three consecutive days, but the territory’s reopening will be put to the test on Tuesday. Authorities have given the green light for the Canberra Racing Club to host 1000 punters at Thoroughbred Park on Melbourne Cup Day. With COVID still circulating in the community and high, and still-climbing, vaccination rates, the event could set the tone for the post-lockdown era in Canberra. ACT Health recorded seven new cases on Sunday. There are still 210 active cases in the territory. There are nine people hospitalised with the virus, five of whom are in intensive care with five requiring ventilation. Meanwhile, quarantine-free travel will commence between the ACT and most parts of Victoria and NSW from today. The live blog appears below this article, and sometimes takes a moment to appear.
