After the Rabbitohs shock Round 1 loss to the Broncos, coach Jason Demetriou was asked if his side was missing former halfback Adam Reynolds.

Then he was asked again.

South Sydney travelled to Suncorp Stadium and came away with an 11-4 loss, as the young and exciting Brisbane team showed they could be finals contenders this season.

Adam Reynolds, the former Rabbitohs veteran, made the off-season move to the Red Hill club but was ruled out after contracting Covid-19.

“It’s irrelevant, he’s not there so there is no point worrying about it, he’s not there,” Demetriou said in the post match press conference.

“The decisions have been made, he will be wearing a Broncos jersey this year. My job is to coach them to get the best out of them that we can this year.

“I feel confident off the back of what I saw tonight, the attitude was first class and the defensive resolve was really good.

“We just need to nail two or three opportunities and take the pressure off our attack if we do that things will flow a bit more.”

Demetriou fielded another question from reporters before he was again asked if Reynolds’ move played a big factor in his team’s loss.

He looked puzzled at the question, repeating what he said earlier.

“Again, he is not there, there is no point thinking about what might be or what is, if we miss him or we don’t miss him he’s not there,” Demetriou said.

“It’s Round 1, we are starting again, we have to build our season.”

The Rabbitohs will now look ahead to their Round 2 clash against the Storm.

Latrell Mitchell will be a welcome inclusion for Demetriou’s side who will be hoping to record their first victory of 2022.
