A young woman who calls herself the “Aussie Rapunzel” has used a piece of toast to prove why you should always spray heat protector on your hair before using a straightener.
The 23-year-old, known for her luscious one-metre blonde hair, shared a now-viral TikTok video showing what really happened after she sprayed one side of the sliced white bread with heat protector.
The results were astounding when shown side by side, with the “treated’ side unaffected by the heat after being toasted.
“Bread is not hair but it’s a good visual representation of why you should always use heat protectant,” she said.
Heat protectant adds a barrier between the styling tool and hair, protecting it from burning, drying out and becoming dull.
The video shows her pulling the toast out of the toaster to find the unsprayed side brown and crispy while the other half with heat protector remained white.
“This is why you should always use heat protectant on your hair,” she said.
“After toasting it, you can clearly see which side I sprayed. Although there’s a bit of burning, it is nowhere near as bad as the other half.”
The Aussie Rapunzel said she wanted to share the video to show how heat protectants can work wonders for preventing hair damage.
Her video has since been viewed more than 600,000 times with many stunned after watching the experiment.
“OK I should start using heat protection,” one woman admitted.
