“I think it will be the team that does the little things better for longer.

“Full credit to the Roosters they came back from 16-0 down against the Broncos. I don’t think that has ever been done in NRLW let alone against the three-time reigning premiers.

“It shows they are peaking at the right time, so regardless of last week’s game we know the quality side that they are and the powers that they possess within that 17.

“There is definitely not one player we will be taking lightly.”

Roosters star Jessica Sergis, who used to play for the Dragons, believes the expertise of their comeback win over a formidable Broncos staff offers them the idea they will win from anyplace.

“But I think we just stuck in there and believed in ourselves and came away with it.”

However, Sergis and her staff had been fast to refocus after the semi-final, with the most important sport of the season nonetheless forward of them.

“I think when the buzzer went we were all pretty pumped and it kind of felt like a grand final in itself,” Sergis stated.

“We all celebrated but we did say when we got back into the sheds . . . our coach said we have got to put that behind us.

“We have still got a week to go. Obviously we celebrated but that Monday at training we just had to put it behind us and get ready for the week.”

“To be honest I think a lot of people at the start of the campaign wrote the Dragons off,” Sergis stated.

“I just think it shows how far they have come and how amazing their style of footy has been.

“Then they’ve got Rachael Pearson in the halves and then Emma Tonegato at fullback is just next level. She is a star player.

“I think they have phenomenal players everywhere so it is really their whole team.”

The Dragons have gone from the picket spoon within the final NRLW season to the large dance this 12 months and Wheeler believes they owe loads to their coach, former Dragons premiership winner Jamie Soward.

“He has been incredible because he has been in the NRL system for so long,” Wheeler stated of Soward.

“He understands it and he has that understanding as a player and that really translates as a coach.

“He has allowed us to come in and play our game. He was a very crafty player himself when he was playing so he has helped the halves a lot.

“But he also just has that belief in us. But it is really amazing his professional spin on how we prepare for the game. He was such a competitive player and that translates into his coaching. He has been fantastic.”

Despite Sergis’ ties to the Dragons, she gained’t be doing them any favours within the lead-up to the decider.

“She will want to come in and hang out with us,” Wheeler joked.

“No I won’t,” Sergis replied.

“We are on the plane together tomorrow morning and that’s enough for me. I might give them a coffee in the morning with some laxatives in it.”

In a large increase for the Roosters star ahead Sarah Togatuki had her cost downgraded on the judiciary and is free to play within the decider.

“Massive sigh of relief,” Sergis stated Togatuki being cleared to play.

“I found out yesterday after training. It was a long two hour session and I was kind of on edge the entire time because we didn’t know what was happening.

“But we were all pretty confident that she was going to be able to play.

“She has been one of our star players.”

Wheeler too was completely happy Togatuki was allowed to play within the greatest sport of the season.

“You need her out there for a grand final,” Wheeler stated.

“We spoke about it when she went to the judiciary. I remember turning to Kezie (Apps) and she said, I want her to play.

“You don’t want to see these opportunities taken away from great players like Sarah.

“You want the best players out there and you want to beat the best. We welcomed that and we see it as a challenge.

“I’m happy that she is back out there. She’s an incredible soul and she deserves that day more than anyone.”

Wheeler sat out the final season of NRLW and Covid induced the 2021 marketing campaign to be delayed, so she is as eager as anybody to verify this grand remaining counts.

“It feels like a day and an age, but Covid sort of put us all on the same path,” Wheeler stated.

“We all lost a lot of our footy last year. The season before I watched from the sidelines and the girls didn’t go as well as anticipated.

“That was the hardest part watching my mates come away 0-3 when they prepared so well.

“But we were all in the same boat with Covid and we are all just buzzing to get out there.

“Although this year is going to be 11 months of footy we are excited for it.

“I think the quality of play even though we have missed out on six months since the last game in Origin last year.

“Turning out in February and we have turned out quality games like we have it just shows the growth of the women’s game.”

Another enthralling chapter within the development of the ladies’s sport will happen on Sunday when the Dragons and Rooster go head-to-head for the title.
