COVID outbreaks in Canberra, Queanbeyan, Goulburn Warrigal aged care homes as Omicron spreads among ACT retirement villages | The Canberra Times

More aged care homes in the ACT and surrounding regions have had COVID-19 outbreaks. Eight residents and five staff members at the Warrigal Calwell aged care home have tested positive for COVID-19. The initial outbreak occurred on January 1. Six residents and six staff members at Warrigal Stirling have tested positive, with the outbreak first occurring on January 3. There are four residents and four staff members at Warrigal Goulburn who have tested for COVID, the first case was reported on January 1. There was an initial outbreak on January 3 at Warrigal Queanbeyan, with six residents and 13 staff members testing positive. The letter from Warrigal said staff were undertaking rapid antigen tests every two days, and visitors are unable to visit the aged care homes except for end of life visits. The Canberra Times is aware of 12 aged care homes and retirement villages in the region that have been exposed to COVID-19. Aged care industry bodies are concerned residents are being put under unnecessarily severe lockdown measures following exposures. ACT Health said they work with aged care homes to implement outbreak management plans, but do not order providers to put residents under lockdown.
